Epidemic Disease Theory
A little bit you should know about the theory:
The epidemic disease theory is one of the plausible theories that could very well have factored into the actual reasons for collapse of the Maya region. It is an easy explanation for rapid decreases in the region's population, and infectious diseases caused by parasites are common, according to 2 men named Dunn and Shimkin, in such rainforest regions. There are many types of diseases that could have done it, including intense diarrhea and some infections. As they began to develop and become more advanced, they could have made an invention or planted a plant that attracted disease-causing pests which destroyed their civilization. It is also predicted that the possible disease that would have hit the hardest, so to speak, was the diarrhea. The reasoning behind this is that it would have hit children, beginnining to stop key nutrition and growth. It also makes them easy targets for other disease. This is probably one of the most likely of all of the theories. |
